The Cooperative Communications Intern will be responsible for assisting the cooperative with projects designed to educate and inform members, employees and the community; build trust and support for the cooperative; and improve member satisfaction. You will learn about the cooperative business model, help promote issues and programs that are relevant to the strategic goals and objectives of the cooperative, and help build and maintain relationships with co-op stakeholders through events, projects, and communications.

What You Will Do:

  • Assist in producing print and electronic communication materials for internal and external audiences, including newsletters, press releases, brochures, ads, bill inserts, presentation materials and social media and website content, including a conversion to a new platform.
  • Help expand Enerstar's use of electronic communications to create positive online experiences for members, employees and stakeholders.
  • Assist with co-op Facebook and Twitter pages to build two-way communications between the co-op and key audiences, in alignment with co-op objectives and our social media policy.
  • Assist with coordination and efficient use of resources from co-op partners, including Touchstone Energy, Wabash Valley Power, Association of Illinois Electric Cooperative, and others.
  • Gain understanding of Enerstar's products, services and cooperative business principles, and be able to communicate key messages about those topics to members, employees and others.
  • Keep immediate supervisor well informed and seek advice and assistance on issues and projects for the cooperative.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned to help communicate co-op's key messages, and build trust and understanding with key audiences.

About You:

You love to exceed expectations, encourage trust and build opportunities while maintaining the cooperative philosophy of serving those who would not otherwise be served. You love working with people both colleagues and members in a member-focused cooperative environment.

Education:  College student or recent college graduate. Preferred majors are public relations, communications, marketing or journalism.

Experience:  Writing and general office work experience helpful

Abilities & Skills:  Excellent writing and communication skills.  Ability to work efficiently on projects, both independently, and as a team. Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office, desktop publishing, photo editing, web content management.  Must be self motivated with the ability to meet deadlines.

A valid driver's license is required.

 Additional Information:

This is a paid, temporary internship for up to 12 weeks, beginning in May and ending in August. The position is for a minimum of up to 40 hours per week. The schedule is flexible and can be negotiated. Enerstar's normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Minimal travel may be required to conduct interviews and research.
